Microsoft To Lay Off Another 2,850 Employees This Year

For those considering to submit their resume to Microsoft should take note that the company is undergoing another downsizing period this year. Last year Microsoft had fired more than 7,000 employees as they merged their Smartphone and Xbox divisions to a single Microsoft Devices unit.

About 900 employees are from the Sales group and had been informed earlier about the suspension of their jobs. A notable suspension earlier was of Kevin Turner who had a great role in this department.
The statement by Microsoft was:
In addition to the elimination of 1,850 positions that were announced in May 2016, approximately 2,850 roles globally will be reduced during the year as an extension of the earlier plan, and these actions are expected to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2017.
End of Fiscal Year 2017 means that we can expect even more positions to be reduced. Microsoft has only 3% share currently in the overall mobile department and we have zero news regarding any upcoming Windows Phones other than the already launched HP Elite x3. There seriousness regarding the mobile segment is highly questionable. They only managed to sell 4.5 Million smartphones in Q4 2015.

It would seem to me that Microsoft is planning to cut short its hardware efforts and make them limited while striving on to secure the top spot in Cloud Computing and Services.
What are your thoughts about Microsoft's layoffs? Let us know!
