USB 3.2 Is Here And It Promises Up To 20 Gbps Speed

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group has announced the 3.2 update which will dramatically increase the data transfer rates as well as two-lane transfer operations using USB Type-C as well as other benefits. The reason for making it exclusive to USB Type-C is because the A/B connectors don't have enough wires for this data transfer.

The update will be backward compatible but with the same old speed which is a drawback here. USB 3.1 Gen 2 which currently is capable of 10 Gb/s speed will capable of achieving these new speeds but it will require new devices and updated hosts.
“When we introduced USB Type-C to the market, we intended to assure that USB Type-C cables and connectors certified for SuperSpeed USB or SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps would, as produced, support higher performance USB as newer generations of USB 3.0 were developed,” said Brad Saunders, USB 3.0 Promoter Group Chairman. “The USB 3.2 update delivers the next level of performance.”
