Crash Bandicoot: On the run! Review - A joyful adventure
Crash Bandicoot: On the run is a lively game full of energy and colors. It is a modernized version of the nostalgic original. So if you've played Crash on PS1 or you're an endless runner person, you're set for a joyful adventure.
The crash is back with an endless run game. The running, spinning, sliding and crashing characteristics of Crash make him the best player for this genre. The game has a very subway surfer and temple run vibe to it. But it has much more to offer than just a race track on loop.
We can love these intensely complicated gameplays all we want, but after a long hard day, we all need a fun, vibrant, and easy game to unwind with. It concentrates all the basic maneuvers for the Crash into simplistic gameplay. Crash Bandicoot: on the run is your go-to game to de-stress.
The storyline starts with Dr. Neox Cortex. He has called monsters from different dimensions. Each boss character has his own army of foot soldiers. In order to send them back, you need a potion. Coco, the smart one crafts the potions. Crash collects the ingredients through running these adventurous paths. He spins, slides, jumps, and crashes his way through these paths.
Once you've helped coco make the potion, you enter the battle to fight the monster. As you progress the monsters get tougher. In order to defeat them, you need more ingredients to get the bombs, serums, and potions ready. And so the game goes on.
The strengths of Crash Bandicoot: on the run
While keeping the feel of the originals, integrating the vibrant colors and impressive graphics are a treat to the eye. The color pops to match the aesthetic of the interface. It is not an endless running segment, instead, it has a whole back story, you run with a purpose. The developers draw inspiration from the whole franchise with its inclusions. The game is quite responsive for an endless run. The animations are amazing.
The bouncy audio track is bang on, giving the adrenaline rush as the game gets fast. The change of music when you collect an Aku Aku mask gets you swaying to the beat. Crash Bandicoot: on the run doesn't make you lose your progress after a single bump, like other endless runs. You get to keep the checkpoints.
The weaknesses of Crash Bandicoot: on the run!
Fun to play, but the game comes with its fair share of flaws. New weapons and potions take a long time to brew. You can either go through challenge modes meanwhile or pay premium currency to speed it up. We need games most when we're out waiting for a bus or in a traffic jam, and don't have data or internet. But this game doesn't launch without the data downloads, which ends up being a major letdown.
There is a single course of gameplay. The game lacks variety big time. The frequent recurrence of moves, paths, and enemies makes Crash bandicoots boring and repetitive. The progress feels quite dead at points. It is slow-paced and the instructions further keep on interrupting the gameplay.
To get the cosmetics and skins, you have to spend your gems. You receive very limited gems as daily rewards so you have to spend money. The microtransactions are however confusing and convoluting. Minor things are ridiculously expensive.
Suggested Improvements for Crash Bandicoot: on the run!
It is a fun game to indulge in. But some things can be improved. If the game continues after you defeat the monster and keep going as long as you can, it would make it more exciting. Adding in more course paths and adjusting speed as per your preference would add an element of customization.
The game might not be challenging but it is indeed addicting. You're bound to be entertained by the great visuals, fun animations, and a very catchy soundtrack. This makes it more popular among younger audiences.
